There are so many apology videos circulating in social media that there is honestly no way to quantify them without being a programming genius at this point. Without fail, every time something awful happens within the empire, there are sure to be people who want attention for feeling awful about it. However, what so many of those people are failing to understand is that it is worse than nothing to offer an apology without doing anything to change problematic behaviors. My question now is why are so many people smiling at BIPOCQ–especially Black people–without offering anything different?
Are there police officers hosing people down, siccing dogs on people, activating tear gas, or gunning people down during the protests against the current regime? No, and what does that tell everyone? Leaders do not care about protests, voting, meetings, social media, lawsuits, or unions at this time. The president is a felon, so what is the rule of law to them? “Elites” only cared when Black people were asking folks to leave us alone and mind the business that paid them, instead of minding ours all the time. Sure, for Black Lives Matter, at least three white people that I know of were gunned down, but the message under that circumstance was that Black people did not know our place. Doing the same things when people are mad at the dominant narrative is pointless because it has consistently been able to lull people into submission. “Leaders” regard all this “organizing” as continuing to follow their rules–because it is. No activism within the dominant narrative leads to longstanding change.
While everyone is so busy doing all of the things they are used to doing on a regular basis, they are not doing the hard things. I have already mentioned how “easy” is over, and so have several other producers who are also all over social media. People are using easy, attention-seeking tasks to distract everyone from doing the hard things. It is time to recognize that everyone cannot flood their energy in multiple directions, and trends are not an indication of what needs to be done. The country has been couped into fascism. All the nitwits talking about how they voted to preserve the status quo–which was also doing no one but rich people any favors–have demonstrated that they are wedded to convenience, complacence, and justification.
Doing the same things while hoping things change is now evidence of being emotionally immature. Telling people to get ready for 2026 as if anything within the rules matters anymore is being a child waiting for a parent to check under the bed for monsters. This is how fascism finally came home to roost: instead of demonstrating critical thinking skills, everyone was scrambling to find a “parent” figure to fix all the problems. Evil is always willing to lie, and it did; now, everyone is seeing what waiting for one person to fix their lives is doing on a global scale. It is time to quit stalling, and start doing the things everyone knows should have been done, and mean them. Hiding behind the “diversity of tactics” means that someone is still holding on to the edge of the pool, and calling it swimming. None of it works anymore.
