One of the many reasons that a lot of the racist behavior is exploding throughout the empire has been that so many people feel “passion” about maintaining whiteness in a position of authority. Even when the consequences harm themselves, so many beneficiaries and sycophants will excuse the violence with the concept of “passion.” I would argue that “passion” would, instead, be translated as contempt for change, and that is what Kamala Harris represented, even if she maintained the dominant narrative. Truly, the only time “passion” comes out of a white individual’s mouth is to denigrate people of color, and I see it all the time in political and economic arenas.
Why are the schools still segregated? Because people are “passionate” about “maintaining standards,” even though there is a concerted effort to destroy any materials that are sent to predominantly BIPOCQ schools. Why are the neighborhoods still segregated? People feel entitled to chase the ideals that were sent to them through sitcoms that play on repeat and stir their nostalgia full to bursting, igniting their “passion.” There was never a real reason for income inequality or for technology to mean the decimation of the middle class, but the passionate hatred for people desperate to disengage was too strong.
No words, actions, protests or disengagement was enough to quell the need to demonstrate how “passionate” white people have been for control, and this is all out in the open now. Nobody knows what it would look like to not be able to control non-white people, and people fear what they cannot understand. This is the main reason that violence has recently exploded, and why those who are intent on letting “passion” rule the day will become collateral damage. Emotions are unstable elements for leadership, and so many people are demanding the right to let them run rampant without thinking about the consequences.
I have disliked Kamala Harris ever since she confidently declared that the United States was not a racist country, but I am absolutely proud that she demonstrated leadership in her latest move, which was not running to be governor of California. In theory, it could be because she is a “sore loser,” and she has won every election other than the presidency. However, I think her current awareness has developed from the inability to ignore how “passion” keeps manifesting violence towards everyone who is nonwhite. She would be the leader of everyone, and she saw how virulently people reacted to the presidency of Barack Obama, so she decided that “quelling Black people” was not a role she wanted to play.
People are not being honest with themselves about how they have enabled the “passion” of violence to get out of control against anyone threatening the dominant narrative. Because the empire was developed by narcissists living a lie, so many individuals have obsessively been excusing how obnoxiously people have been behaving that they have forgotten that people have the right to be autonomous. Refusing to enable “passion” is not being mean, but allowing the natural consequences of unchecked “passion” to come to fruition. No, swarms of people cannot attack half the world and excuse it by calling it “passion.”
