There is a saying in the Black community: falling in love with “potential.” Instead of actually looking at what people are doing and how they are moving, others who call themselves “seeing the good in people” will begin to fervently believe in the potential of such people being better than they actually are. Rather than hold people accountable and create meaningful distance, these gullible twits spend all their time rationalizing bad behavior and telling people to see traits that do not exist. We are now seeing all of this at an international level, and it has not improved the image of imperial residents. We need to stop believing that the “elites” are anything other than spoiled brats unable to hear “no,” and all the philanthropy they offer is worthless because they know they do not deserve what they have.
No one cares about the “rags-to-riches” propaganda that people like to spew on a regular basis. Most people will never have the resources of the wealthiest people on the planet, and they have ensured that policies remain in place to keep it that way. Nobody working in a mail room is steps away from becoming the CEO except as a fairytale, joke, or attention-seeking stunt. If these people have worked to maintain their hoarding, they will not be equally committed to releasing it and allowing people the resources that they need to survive. Unlike many other truths, those two truths cannot exist in the same space.
Anomalies are not trends, and no one wealthy is secretly seeking redemption. They know that they are evil, that they have participated in evil, and that nobody deserves what they have put society through just to exist. There is nothing and no amount of money that they can do which would clear the scales in any meaningful way short of depriving themselves of everything. Perfect example: Jeff Bezos said in 1999 that he prefers that his employees wake up terrified every day, and Mackenzie Scott stayed with him. Only after their daughter graduated from college did a woman–who had plenty of money and options for escape–choose to divorce and distance. No one cares about women billionaires unless they are sycophants to a dominant narrative that could care less.
There is a fundamental lack of awareness that comes with having so much money that it cannot be spent in a lifetime, and it is past time for the proletariat to get a grip. No, wealthy people are not waiting for a touching story to get their acts together. Honestly, they make messes and run away because they know people will be working on fixing such problems for generations. There is no heart of gold, there is no redemption arc, and it is time to stop falling in love with potential because the only one who gets hurt are those who are already vulnerable.
