There are so many people who are being presented with opportunities to do better–or who had multiple opportunities to be better people. One of the saddest things about imperial collapse is not the end of an era, but the fact that so many are committed to the idea of the empire without proof of whether it serves a purpose or ultimate good, or causes harm. Too many people are still hoping to climb corporate ladders, become millionaires, or win prizes that have no meaning, oblivious to the reality of how stupid those aspirations look in a world that provides zero opportunity for the majority. Rather than try and shape the vision of the future, these obstinate fools–there is no nice way to put it–would rather choose not to change, and blame everyone else for their foolishness.
Even the circuses meant to distract us are being infected by the corruption, as we all recently saw with the emperor insisting on the removal of a red card in a football game when the United States was already behind by three goals. The Superbowl was a joke because almost nobody cared, and the only reason anyone knew about the NBA finals was because the emperor went to the game and heard displeasure. None of the fake smiles that either political party shares is working because it is so blatantly obvious that rich people have no way of representing the majority. Ironically, both parties do represent the people because most people are ignoring reality, accosting anyone who dares to challenge them, and whining about the “good ol’ days” that mostly existed on television. Marvel and DC used to tell somewhat interesting stories, but now the pro-wealth copaganda machines have worn through everyone’s patience, especially since most original storytelling never gets a chance to breathe.
The empire is not coming back from this nonsense, and I could care less about what nostalgic morons think because all the conditions to create the past no longer exist. To me, people can either choose to change and recognize that hoarding and denying reality are not indicative of the real world, or everything will go to rot. None of the superficial grandstanding matters anymore because there would need to be a future available, and so many people can tell that those in power think less of everyone else than they do about their next bottle of champagne.
