A New World May Not Be Possible

Recently, I was talking to a friend and we were discussing how difficult it is to imagine a new world, not because we lack imagination, but because everyone continues to behave in the same way. Believing in a fantasy is pleasant, but sometimes, when reality presses too hard against an imagination, there is nothing left to imagine. Everything becomes presented with a logical argument about why people would not behave in that way, and those who imagine sigh, and continue shuffling through their existence with measured defeat. Pretending that there are other options when everything remains the same is moving towards the mania of the beneficiaries and the sycophants these days, sadly enough.

The main problem, as I see it, is that no problems exist. Racism is fake and in the heads of everyone experiencing it. The environment will fix itself, and no one has to change any of our behavior. If we all work harder, we will eventually become billionaires despite living on a finite planet with finite resources. Apparently, those who recognize that there are problems in the world “just need to calm down,” because as long as we refuse to acknowledge the existence of problems, they will not exist. That is, clearly, a functioning mindset that people are using around the world.

Obviously, this is a short-term remedy, kind of like getting drunk is a way to fix all the problems that one is facing in the world. Unfortunately, this is the remedy that people are choosing, and they are repeatedly doing it while being confronted with all the issue that they refuse to face. If the empire refuses to face the problems it has caused and perpetuates, a new world is not possible because once this empire dies, another will rise to take its place. We could have a different society and a more diverse emotional landscape, but not while acquisition is the only “skill” worth maintaining. A new world requires creating a new world, not just renaming the old one.
