Interviews are becoming interesting only because so few people are being asked for them, thanks to AI. There are countless books, articles, videos, and more on how to make oneself presentable for one. However, for people with decent social skills and enough inner confidence, employers enjoy being entertained before choosing someone with enough fear. No matter how well-mannered and appropriate someone is for a job, employers seem to want people who lack the very qualities they claim to want.
Some might say that being affable is its own reward, and I believe that on a social level. Unfortunately, there have been so many humiliation rituals in workplaces that everyone thinks they are owed a turn at making people feel badly at work. An individual can come in with the best intentions, but if the administration wants a toy, nothing else matters. Eventually, the light goes out and the job becomes something to endure rather than a fulfilling livelihood with social encounters.
To me, employers are enjoying being particularly abusive at this time against folks who have no recourse. Until then, a lot of the younger generations are refusing to beg for dignity or endure someone else’s insecurities. After all, a job was only ever supposed to be a job, not a noose or a leash.
